Nexium Control tablets work to reduce the amount of acid that your stomach produces.
They contain the active substance esomeprazole which works as a ‘proton pump inhibitor’. Esomeprazole works by blocking ‘proton pumps’ – proteins found in specialised cells in the stomach lining – which pump acid into your stomach. By blocking the pumps, it reduces acid production and helps to relieve the symptoms of acid reflux.
This medicine can be used in adults for the short-term treatment of acid reflux symptoms (for example, heartburn and acid regurgitation). Reflux is the back flow of acid from the stomach into the gullet or “foodpipe”, which may become inflamed and painful.
This may cause you symptoms such as a painful sensation in your chest, rising up into your throat (heartburn) and a sour taste in your mouth (acid regurgitation).
It might be necessary to take the Nexium Control tablets for 2 to 3 days to improve symptoms, but don’t continue for more than 2 weeks without consulting a pharmacist or doctor.
