Prostate problems become more common as you get older. The risk of having an enlarged prostate increases every year after the age of 40, so it makes sense to pay attention to prostate care.

What is the prostate?
The prostate is a small, rubbery gland about the size of a ping-pong ball, located deep inside the groin, between the base of the penis and the rectum.
It is essential for reproduction, because it supplies part of the seminal fluid (semen), which mixes with sperm from the testes. Seminal fluid helps the sperm to travel and survive.
Later in life, you can experience an overgrowth of prostate tissue which pushes against the urethra and the bladder, blocking the flow of urine and causing the issues we commonly think of as prostate problems.
Inflammation (prostatitis), and prostate cancer can also trigger prostate symptoms, and it is possible to have more than one condition at the same time.
Enlarged prostate symptoms
Your bladder is like a balloon, and it gets larger as it fills with urine. The urethra is the narrow tube connected to the bladder and carries urine and semen out of your body.
It runs through the middle of the prostate and along the length of the penis. When your prostate is enlarged, you can experience urinary problems.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the medical name for an enlarged prostate. As the name makes clear, this is a benign condition.
Simple prostate care supplements can help to ease symptoms, if other causes have been ruled out in consultation with a doctor.

Prostate care checklist
An enlarged prostate is present in 20% of men in their fifties, 60% of men in their sixties, and 70% of men by age 70. The condition can also affect trans women.
There are a few questions that can help you identify prostate problems:
- Are you passing urine more during the day?
- Do you experience an urgent need to pass urine?
- Is your urine flow reduced?
- Do you feel burning when you pass urine?
- Do you need to get up often during the night to pass urine?
- Are you accidentally leaking urine?
If you have these urinary symptoms, you may need to talk to a pharmacist or doctor.
